Rhythmic Theory
Rhythmic theory relevant to drums forms an important part of our lessons
At Urban Beat, lessons are tailored to each student’s individual goals and experience level — whether you’re picking up sticks for the first time or looking to improve your confidence, coordination, and overall musicianship.
Sessions are designed to be practical, encouraging, and enjoyable, helping students build strong foundations in rhythm, timing, technique, creativity, and musical expression in a relaxed one-on-one environment.
Students are guided through important aspects of playing such as hand and foot coordination, groove development, fills, dynamics, posture, stick control, timing, listening skills, and learning to play along with music. Depending on the student’s goals and level, lessons may also include reading notation, improvisation, song structure, performance preparation, and effective practice techniques.
Teaching is adapted according to each student’s age, interests, and learning pace. Some students learn purely for enjoyment, while others may be preparing for school music, live performance, worship teams, or recording projects.
Both acoustic and electronic kits are used during sessions, allowing students to become comfortable in different playing environments and musical styles.
For learners who don’t yet own an instrument, monthly rental options may also be available to help make home practice more accessible.
Whether your goal is to play with other musicians, improve your ability, or simply enjoy learning something new, Urban Beat aims to create a supportive environment where students can grow in confidence while developing a genuine love for music.
